Blue Sky's last film Nimona, has been saved
Exactly a year ago in this very month of April, Blue Sky was shut down by Disney. What went down with it was 400 employees and a movie with only 10 months left off production left called Nimona, a story set in medieval times about a villian and a shapeshifter named Nimona who try to stop there evil government. I thought this movie was never gonna see the light off day, but thanks to Netflix, THE MOVIE LIVES! That's right! This rarely ever happens in the industry, where a movie gets cancelled only to have it get picked up by a different studio to make it. The film will also be produced by Annapurna pictures, the same studio that brought you the animated movie that shocked the world, Sausage Party. There is one big question though, is Blue Sky going to be the studio to finish it. No. That will go to the animation studio DNEG, the studio that did the animation for Ron's Gone Wrong will finish up the remaining animation that Blue Sky didn't do yet. However, the film will be directed by Blue Sky vets, Nick Bruno and Tony Quane, who previously Directed one off Blue Sky's best (and last) films, Spies in Disguise. They are taking the helm off the original director, Patrick Osbourne. Before he did Nimona for Blue Sky, he won an Oscar for his short Feast at Disney. My guess for why he is not directing the film anymore is because he is making a show at Netflix, but the film is in very good hands. The film is based off of a comic off the same name so it is only fitting that the film takes a Spiderverse approach to its animation with that movie ushering in tons of films with a similar style. Another question is will Blue Sky get credit on the film? They did the first 75% of the film! So they should! Only one way to be sure when it comes out next year.
