Underrated Animation: Earwig and the Witch: Not Bad! Stupid internet people.
I don't think this movie is bad! So this movie is the first movie the critically acclaimed Studio Ghibli made in 6 yrs and its there first cg film. Now Studio Ghibli is the greatest animation studios of all time! They are from Japan and they made such amazing films such as Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke and so much more. All the films I just listed off to where all made by the incredible Hayao Miyazaki. His son Goro Miyazaki directed this. Goro directed a couple films, his first one Tales of Earthsea which was a flop. However, he completely redeemed himself with From up on Poppy Hill which was a big critical and commercial success. Then he made his award winning show Ronya the Robber's Daughter. Then he was asked by his dad Hayao Miyazaki and producer Toshio Suzuki asked him to make a film adaptation on the book Earwig and the Witch which was written by the same gal who wrote Howl's Moving Castle which was also adapted by Studio Ghibli and was directed by Hayao Miyazaki.
When the trailer for this movie came out, people ripped this thing to shreds! They hated the computer animation. They hated how a mostly hand drawn animated studio made a "ugly, not detailed enough, and weird looking." movie. I actually kind of like the animation. I'm gonna talk a little bit about the animation in Stylized animation pt 2. I like the backgrounds and the movement of the characters. I like the character designs. The food looks delicious! Is the animation groundbreaking? Not necessarily, but its still pretty good.
Know its the story that could've used a little more work. I like the main character Aya sorta, I mean she's a b but I mean she's charming. I love Thomas the cat, and I love the Mandrake. He was so cool! Best part of the movie. Its Bella Yaga, the mean witch lady that I'm not a fan off. Its her voice. the voice actor who played her did not do the best job. She kind of just talked like she just didn't give a crap about the movie at all. She just kind of reigned in the emotion. Like she talked like she was bored the entire movie! I like Bella Yaga's design, just not her voice. And also, the lesson at the end was kind of saying that if you manipulate people and butter people up, they will give you everything they want without any consequences.

So really, its Bella Yaga and the lesson. Everything else is good! Not perfect, but pretty good! I enjoyed it! Good first cg movie for Studio Ghibli. But, because of the reviews for the movie, I don't think this movie will get a sequel or that Studio Ghibli will ever try to do a cg film again unfortunately.

i enjoyed watching it with you
