Over the Moon Review: A beautiful but cliched film

So, I finally watched Over the Moon about a month ago with my lil bros and I liked it! It was fine. So I don't know if you remember, but I put the trailer on here a while ago so if you want to check that out if you can.

Anyway, I just wanna say, this is one of the most beautifully animated films of all time. The colors, the lighting, the textures. So beautiful. I also oved the authenticity of it. This film is set in china and they do a great job at representing there culture. However the movie is a bit familiar, in the sense that it has animal sidekicks, and songs like an animated Disney movie and talks about death and grief and makes you cry like a Pixar movie. That's not really a bad thing because it makes sense because it was directed by legendary Disney Animator Glen Keane, but I just wish there was more originality in its story. I mean, a girl building a rocket to the moon is original, but an animal sidekick, a death off a parent, and musical numbers aren't. What I would've liked better is if there where no songs, no animal sidekicks, and if it was 2d. Even though the animation is gorgeous, the director Glen Keane is a masterful 2d animator. There is a scene in the movie that is 2d animated and I wish the movie just looked like that. Also, the characters feel kinda generic to and so do some off the songs.

Overall, this movie is amazingly beautiful in its animation and even in its familiarity, its still a fine film. Predictable, but kinda fun. Netflix has a lot of great animated content and I can't wait to see what comes next.
