The Toonsies

After the Oscars, I started to think about how the Oscars really just don't care about animation. So I don't care about the Oscars or there decisions. I hate the Oscars. So I thought to make my own awards. The Toonsies, and here are the winners. Some are the same as the ones the Oscars chose and some are the ones I think was the best. I'm not putting in films I haven't seen yet.  Lets get into it.

 2001: Shrek

Shrek is a one off a kind film in more ways then one. It pushed animation to bold new places with its jokes and how it mercilessly poking fun at Disney's tried and true formula.

2002: Spirited Away

Honestly, this film should've won Best Picture. This is the greatest movie ever made. It feels like your in a dream while watching it.

2003: Finding Nemo

An absolute classic that will endure for generations, Finding Nemo is a film that is beautiful in its simplicity.

2004: The Incredibles

One off the greatest superhero films off all time, The Incredibles did something radically different for a Pixar film.

2005: Howls Moving Castle

Howls Moving Castle is another MOVING entry to Hayao Miyazaki's filmography. The award that year went to Wallace and Gromit but I have not seen that film but it looks good.

2006: Cars

Such a good movie that is simple and is such honestly a great slice of life story.

2007: Ratatouille

Ratatouille is a masterful work off art that feels like your watching a chef cook a meal right in front of you.

2008: Walle

One off Pixar's best, Walle pushed the boundaries of visual storytelling by telling the first half off the movie almost completely free of dialogue to masterful results. And how there able to make the rest off the movie amazing is amazing as well!

2009: Up

What else can be said about Up that hasn't been said before. It is truly a MASTERPIECE.

2010: Toy Story 3

A perfect end to a chapter of these toys, Toy Story 3 is dark, scary, emotional, and is just an all around rollercoaster ride off emotions. I heard someone call this "Shindler's Toys" and they couldn't be more right.

2011: Kung Fu Panda 2

Dude DreamWorks knows how to make a sequel!!

2012: Wreck it Ralph

Ok, why the heck did this lose the Oscar!!!??! It is one off my faviorite Disney films and it didn't win, that is a big slap in the face! Wreck it Ralph has it all, humor, emotion (yes this movie made me cry), action, video games, video game references, candy, this is like the coolest Disney movie! The characters are RIDICOUSLY likeable, it has a fantastic villian, it just fires on all cylinders.

2013: The Wind Rises

Now, I'm completely fine with Frozen winning (same with Wallace and Gromit and Happy Feet) but Wind Rises is SOOO much better. It has some off the best animation Studio Ghibli has done, it has a heartbreaking story, such wonderful characters, and a great piece of history!

2014:  The LEGO Movie

Even though Song of the Sea is a better film, what the Lego Movie does for animation is incredible!! This movie was my childhood I can quote like the whole movie!!!

2015: Inside Out

An ambitious, bold, beautiful, and emotional, Pixar goes full Pixar with this movie. Pete Doctor makes the most Pixaresque Pixar movies and this in no exception. One off there best.

2016: Zootopia

Zootopia tackles serious topics effortlessly by making it easy to understand and appropriate for kids but not shying it away from the difficult topics. It is also SOOOO FUNNY. The jokes in this movie are FIRE. The animation is stunning and it really is a one off a kind movie.

2017: Coco

I doubted this movie, boy was I wrong. This is one off Pixar's absolute best. Loving Vincent was amazing as well but I couldn't help myself, I love this movie with every fiber of my being and it is one of my favorites.

2018: Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse

One off the greatest films ever made, this was the first animated film since Rango to win Best Animated Feature that wasn't a Disney movie. It was so nice to have it win instead off a Disney movie. It DESERVED IT.

2019: Klaus

Another faviorite film off mine is Klaus, and you'd think the Oscars after Spiderverse winning would give the Oscar to studios other then Disney, but no. It went to Toy Story 4 which at first I was happy about, but then I heard people talk about how Klaus should've won and I thought about it and I was like "You know what! It should have won!" Klaus moved the animation medium forward by using hand drawn animation, which hasn't been used in ten years, but also pushing it in a new direction! It also is just a beautiful, heartwarming (I get choked up every time) and funny story with SOME OF THE GREATEST ANIMATION EVER PUT TO SCREEN.

2020: Wolfwalkers

Wow, I have no words, this is better then Soul. I REALLY wish this won instead. Its SOO good you guys. Its one off my faviorite films. I could watch it again and again.

2021: The Mitchells vs the Machines

Just like Wreck it Ralph, The Lego Movie, and Klaus, I wish this won Best Animated feature. This is one off the greatest films ever made in my opinion. I actually bet $20 on this winning the Oscars, a bet that I lost. It really is SO much better then Encanto.

2022: Puss in Boots The Last Wish

The best Shrek film hands down, it had no reason being this good!!! From the moving story, to the GORGEUS animation, to the layered characters, to the dark, deep, and mature subject matter, this movie is a winner in my book!!!
