Treasure Planet: So Underrated, an artistically beautiful masterpiece
Directed by Disney legends John Musker and Ron Clements the directors behind The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules, Moana, and so much more. This movie was pitched alongside The Little Mermaid all the way back in the eighties. They tried to get this movie made for along time until it was finally put into production. The movie was released in 2002 and was a critical success, but was a box office disaster probably because Harry Potter 2, Spiderman 1, Attack of the Clones came out around the same time. Well guess what, this movie is better then all off those movies!
But what about the movie itself. I saw this on Disney + with my little bros and we loved it. I thought it was super original, gorgeous, and tons of fun. Lets start with the story. The story is based on Robert Luis Stevenson's Treasure Island but in space! Its like Pirates of the Caribbean meets Star Wars. I loved the story! It had a great plot that I was invested in till the end. It was very action packed so I was on the edge off my seat a lot off the time. I also thought the humor in it was quirky and fun. Characters are really important to me so what about them? Amazing!!! Very complex and well developed. I didn't tell you who the characters are in Avatar: The Last Airbender because I wanted to keep the show a surprise and to avoid spoilers, but I will tell you about one character and its the guy with the robot arm in the picture. This guy is, oh my gosh guys, he is great. His name is Captain John Silver and he is a super complex character that's a bad guy but isn't. He's a father figure like character to that guy up there. A lot of the characters are aliens and robots and they all fantastically designed and animated. Which reminds me, the animation! This is some off the best animation I have ever seen! It flawlessly combines hand drawn and computer animation giving it this real atmospheric look to it. The designs of the characters, the fluid movements, the backgrounds everything! The setting is like this steam punk setting which I love and works so well. Theirs this scene where John Silver is cooking and he flawlessly switches his arms super fast as the food is up and the air and then cuts it or burns it or something flawlessly! Its incredible! You can't take your eyes off of this scene!
In conclusion, its sad that this movie doesn't get the recognition it so truly deserves. Its one off my all time faviorite animated Disney films! Do your self a favor watch it and spread the word. It is unlike anything you will ever see.
