What Makes a Pete Doctor Film?

 


    
    So far we have talked about some off the greatest filmmakers of all time like Hayao Miyazaki and Brad Bird. Today we are going to talk about another one who has been my hero for years, Pete Doctor. This Oscar winning Christian (that's right Christian and one off the reasons I look up to him so much is because he is a Christian like myself) animation director has made some off Pixar's greatest films such as Monsters Inc, Up, Inside Out, and Soul. He basically set the standard for Pixar filmmaking. He has recently stepped up as the new chief creative officer at Pixar and is taking the company in a fantastic new direction. Isn't it great that a Christian man is running a big Hollywood company? Lets take a look at what makes a Pete Doctor Film.

    His movies have such a simple style and I love it!


Fantastical Worlds




    Pete grew up loving Chronicles of Narnia and The Wizard of Oz. Just like those books, his films have vast fantastical worlds for the characters to inhabit.

    Out off all the directors at Pixar, Pete knows how to make the audience cry the most.

    Losing a love one, grief, emotions, the emotion sadness, what is the meaning of life. These are just a few of the questions Pete's films talk about.


Epiphanies


    In almost every Pixar movie, there is a big epiphany moment when the character realizes something he or she has been missing and that is no exception with Pete Doctor.

Underrated Animation: Looney Tunes: Back in Action: One of the best live action/animation hybrid movies ever

    Looney Tunes Back in Action is outstanding! It is  very underrated! It is a lot like Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Mary Poppins where it combines 2d hand drawn animation and live action. The movie combines everything I love about Looney Tunes and more with monsters, spy's, Steve Martin, Westerns, Adventure films, and everything else I love. The interactions between the animated characters and the human characters are amazing, very fun to look at, here is an example.      The animation is gorgeous, oh and also, IT IS HILARIOUS! I was dying of laughter! It gets the personalities of the looney tunes characters down. Tons of looney tunes and movie references that I love! Making fun of product placement! To be honest with you, its better then Space Jam and here's why. Space Jam is fantastic but it does make very little sense. Animated Films with stylized animation (and how they did it)

 I got a ton of reviews for movies and shows that I wanna do but I feel like I've been doing a lot of reviews lately, so I'm gonna do this instead. It gives me a little else to talk about. Today I'm gonna talk about movies with animation that looks like nothing we've seen before and how they did it. I also put videos so you can see the process. Spider-Man into the Spiderverse Spider-Man into the Spiderverse is a groundbreaking film in many ways. But one reason is because of its incredible animation! How they made the computer animation look like a comic book is amazing! How they did it is they put a lot of 2-D lines on the characters face. Look closely on Miles' face, see how the wrinkles on his forehead look hand drawn. They also animated most of the movie on twos, which means that they are 12 frames of animation in one second instead of the 24 frames of animation in one second which is used in most animated films.
