Overly Animated

    Netflix has some awesome original animated content. With animated shows like  Kipo and the age of Wonderbeasts and Spirit: Riding Free . But only recently have they started putting original animated movies on there service. Starting with the incredible Oscar nominated Klaus, what followed was the very cute and delightfully twisted and quirky The Willoughbys.     Up next is Over the Moon, a movie made by Pearl Studios who recently did  Abominable, tells the story of a young girl name Fei Fei from china who builds a rocket to fly to the moon to meet the moon goddess Chang'e. Really cool concept! And best part is its directed by Glen Keane. What, you don't know who he is? Well he is a animator from Disney who animated Ariel, The Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas, Tarzan, and Rapunzel. This is his directorial debut. Here is the trailer.

    Strap yourselves in guys cause this one is a real doozy! The Thief and the Cobbler is a movie that was made by a guy named Richard Williams. Never heard of it....well I'm not surprised. I didn't know this movie even existed until last year! Will get into why nobody really knows about it. Anyway, you probably haven't heard of Richard Williams either. Well he did the animation for Who Framed Roger Rabbit.      So are story begins in England where Richard Williams was working on a animated movie adaptation of the Stories of Mullah Nasrudin by Idries Shah which are stories from the Middle East. However, work stopped on it because the Shah family threatened to sue Dick for copyright. So that was scrapped.         But one off the background characters they where able to keep. That character was the thief. And so, the Thief and the Cobbler was born and what followed was Twenty-Eight years of work! Yes, Twenty-Eight years of blood sweat and ...

          For my first thingy, I want to talk about a movie called Galaxy Gas. And it starts with a guy named Craig Perk. Now Craig Perk back when he was in grad school in 2012 wanted to make an hand drawn animated movie. Sadly, hand drawn has become a lost art form. Anyway, He talked to a dude named  Tab Murphy who wrote the script for Tarzan, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Atlantis the Lost Empire if he had any ideas for a 2-D animated movie, he had one that Craig loved.     They then showed the project to Kirk Wise, the Co-director of Beauty and the Beast who worked on Hunchback and Atlantis with Tab. He loved it to and he loved it to. He became  the director and former Disney colleagues who left Disney after they shut down hand drawn joined the project to.       The animators worked from home and the crew would have a weekly sweatbox (which is when the crew pitches something to the director and the director will...

         Well hello there! I'm Julian and one thing that you need to know about me, is that I love animation. Now animation is a series of drawings, photos, and models positioned to create the illusion of life.     How did I get into animation? Well, when I was three, my Pop gave me three movies, two of them would change my life. I think I was impacted by these movies because I watched them both and there two other sequels millions of times and I wouldn't be doing this blog! My closest friends may know what these two movies are, Toy Story and Toy Story 2. So thank you Pop for introducing me to the wonderful world of animation.     Now on this blog, we will talk about lots of different topics, animation news, different people in the industry, and much more.
